When Chance, Cajari and I got into the car, I looked outta the window, as he backed up and turned in the middle of the road. He took the way that was back to the rehab center, which I wasn’t ready to go to. Today was a long ass day and the last thing I wanted was to have to sit in on some group meeting, but Nadine was recommending it. She said it was time for me to start hearing the group share again.

“What’s wrong with you? You been quiet since I picked you up from work.”

“It was a long day and, now, I have to go sit in on group sessions and listen to other people’s problems, and I’m just drained.” I shook my head.

“I’ll tell ya dukes to give you the day.”

“As much as I would appreciate that, I can’t. I don’t want people to think I’m using you to get out of going through my rehab.”

He only nodded his head as he pulled his car through the curvature of the driveway and got out. Watching as he walked around to my side, I turned and looked at Cajari. “See you later lil’ man. Thanks for my drawing, I’m going hang it up right now.”

“You welcome, see you tomorrow.” He smiled, and I got outta the car.

Hugging and giving Chance a kiss, I went to walk off when the sound of Cajari’s voice telling me to wait got my attention. I turned to face him, and he ran and gave me the tightest hug he didn’t even know I needed. I could feel myself getting teary-eyed but smiled through it while leaning down to his level. I cleared my throat and spoke, “Thank you for that. I needed it more than you know.”

“Me too.”

That shit warmed my heart as I stood and headed inside of the building. Cajari was growing on me and had me wishing I had a lil one.

“You good?” one of the other girls, Jessica, asked as I strolled by.

“Yea, kids always make me emotional.” I shook my head with a laugh and kept walking.

Making my way straight to the room where I knew Nadine was holding the group, I opened the door and slid into one of the seats that was in the back. Her eyes were already on me, and I shook my head to let her know she better not pick me to speak.

“I’m Malia, and I’m new here. Just got here today and I’ve been doing every drug from heroin to meth, and I’m only seventeen. I was a model and had the world at my fingertips; shit, I was even dating a top athlete in basketball, but my whole world came crashing down the moment I found out I was pregnant. I started showing too early because of how skinny I was and nobody would book me for a job.” She took a deep breath and continued. “Well, when I did get a job, I did my first line of coke and fell in love, and I lost the baby in the process.
